Habitat for Humanity is known throughout the world for its unique building
model, in which volunteers work alongside the families who will own the
completed homes. Habitat-NYC has adapted the model to work in New York City’s
complex urban building environment.
Habitat-NYC acquires land and buildings from the City of New York’s
Department of Housing Preservation and Development and other governmental
agencies for a nominal fee. Professional architects design our buildings
and professional contractors build the exterior shells to conform to the
city’s strict building
code. Once the exterior is complete, volunteers and Habitat-NYC family
partners build the interiors and complete the finish work.
Habitat-NYC is currently looking for Skilled Leaders, amateur enthusiasts
or professionals who have construction skills and are willing to share them
with others. Skilled Leaders build affordable homes and transform lives
by serving as leaders for our families and volunteers. We cannot build without
skilled leaders, and we are always looking for more. Sign up today to get
involved!
Habitat-NYC has Completed Construction
projects in the Bronx, Brooklyn, Manhattan and Queens, with Current
Construction ongoing and Future Construction
projects planned throughout the city. We welcome your support to help us
build decent, affordable homes. Please consider a donation of funds or materials.
