Bronx Housing Facts
The Bronx has an immediate need for affordable housing. In this borough, 31 percent of all households live in substandard housing, and 10 percent are severely overcrowded. The Bronx has the lowest homeownership rate of the city — less than 20 percent — compared to more than 30 percent for New York City and close to 70 percent for the country as a whole. The highest percentage of people, 27.2 percent, spend more than 50 percent of their income on housing.

Habitat-NYC is working in the most severely affected areas of the Bronx. Mott Haven/Hunts Point is one of the neighborhoods with the most critical housing need. According to the findings of the State of New York City Housing and Neighborhoods 2002, household poverty in the Bronx is 49.1 percent, compared to 18.7 citywide.

Our most recently completed project in The Bronx is a beautifully renovated eight-unit building at 703 E.156th Street.
