New York State Office for the Aging
This office serves as a focal point and advocate for older New Yorkers and their families seeking services that help them remain active, vital members of their communities. From grandparents serving as primary caregivers for their grandchildren, to accessing home delivered meals or transportation services, New York State’s senior citizens create opportunities for seniors at risk of losing their independence. Seniors have access to information and referral services, job and volunteer opportunities, senior center and day care center programs, trans-portation, congregate and home delivered meals, and homemaker and home health aide services. They also have legal services, nursing home ombudsman services and counseling programs to assist them if they are abused, neglected or exploited. New York Association of Homes and Services for the Aging (NYAHSA)
NYAHSA is a statewide organization of socially responsible, community-benefit organizations dedicated to providing high quality health care, housing, and community services to the elderly and people with special needs. NYAHSA’s members include nursing homes, adult care facilities, assisted living providers, continuing care retirement communities, senior housing facilities, home care agencies, adult day care providers, and community services serving people of all ages. One Stop Senior Services is unique walk-in agencies where compassionate pro-fessionals help senior citizens continue living safely and independently in their own community. Seniors come to One Stop to get government assistance and help with eviction, bankruptcy, elder abuse and other vital concerns that threaten their well-being. Volunteers of America, Greater New York - Housing Division
Volunteers of America is a national faith-based human service organization whose mission is to reach and uplift those in need while providing opportunities for people to serve others. The Housing Division provides permanent and transitional housing with comprehensive services to homeless and formerly homeless persons, with the goal of achieving greater independence and reintegration into the community. Special populations served include families, homeless and at risk of being home-less adults, seniors, and people living with HIV/AIDS. The residences are staffed 24 hours a day, seven days a week.
